DERR Dustin Dean Derr of Gadsby, Alberta, beloved son of Larry Derr and Marlene Derr and brother to Janelle and Miranda passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the age of 26 years. Dustin was born in Stettler, Alberta on March 9, 1983. Being the oldest of three children and the first grandchild on the Hanson side he was very special. He was raised on the farm south of Gadsby. Attended school at Botha, Gadsby and Stettler where he graduated from the Wm. E. Hay Composite High School in 2001. From a very young age, Dustin showed his farm background by being able to fix and practically do anything he took a liking to. Dustin held a few short-term jobs, went custom baling with his Dad for a season or two, then took employment with Paintearth Mines. During this time he purchased his first home in Gadsby, Alberta. Dustin occupied his days and loved to go camping, quading and fishing with friends. Dustin was armed with quick wit and an enormous smile, and was a mischievous instigator of practical jokes among friends and family.If anyone of us needed a helping hand, Dustin would be there. Dustin believed and spent hours researching the bible. He accepted Jesus into his life when he was baptized. He liked to research on the Internet and spend time watching TV and movies. Dustin was always there and will always hold a very special spot in our hearts. Dustin was very fortunate to have met and shared part of his life with Rachel Kerr, whom he loved dearly. He thought a great deal of his friends and family, and will be greatly missed by all. Dustin will by ever remembered by his father, Larry Derr; mother, Marlene Derr; sisters, Janelle and Miranda (Dustin Cowan); girlfriend, Rachel Kerr; grandmothers, Frances Hanson and Grace Sellinger; numerous other relatives and many friends. A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Alberta with Pastor Sean UnKauf officiating. Doug McKay played the organ for the congregational hymns. A special DVD was produced by his friend, Andrew Brysiuk and his family, with music by Nickelback. His friends, Kyle Chadwick, Joey Huraj, Nolan Penosky and Cody Gordon gave a tribute of the special memories that they shared as well as served as honorary pallbearers. Interment was held at Omega Cemetery, Gadsby, Alberta. family and friends gathered for a time of sharing and a luncheon prepared by Teresa's Country Catering. Memorial donations may be made to the Stettler Funeral Home Charity Account, for a memorial to be placed at Big Knife Provincial Park this summer.
