Edel JORGENSEN

JORGENSEN Edel M (The Sewing Lady) Jorgensen of Big Valley AB. Passed away suddenly, at home, of a heart attack Aug. 1, 2007. Mom was born in Aarhus, Denmark on Aug. 29, 1935 to Einar and Ellen Rasmussen. Edel and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1956 residing in Riondel B.C. and later to Nelson, Vancouver and back to Nelson. In 1997 mom moved to Big Valley AB. which she always referred to as “God’s Country” and her home. She was very active and energetic working for the Big Valley Inn as a waitress in the restaurant, as well as serving for Bill Smiley, and the Stettler steam train. She sewed clothing, costumes, and wedding dresses in the evenings. In 2006 she retired from waitressing and devoted herself to her community, friends, and family. She still sewed and mended for everyone. She loved to travel around central Alberta with friends to shop. Frequent trips to Drumheller, Red Deer and Innisfail were always punctuated by a quick visit with family for a coffee and/or bathroom break. Extended trips to Calgary to visit Lorrelei and Husband Ron and youngest grandchildren Avery and Katelyn, were very special. As were visits to Innisfail to visit granddaughter Krista and husband Al and youngest great granddaughter Isabell. Trips to Red Deer were always interrupted by a stop at Pine Lake to visit with Earl, Doreen and grandson Michael. She had many winter vacations in California with Heidi and husband Doug. As well as trips to B.C. to visit Rick, wife Kathy, grandson Jordan and daughter Annette. She will be greatly missed by her children Heidi (Doug) Bernard, Sacramento California USA, Earl (Doreen) Jorgensen, Pine Lake AB, Annette Jorgensen Trail BC, Rick (Kathy) Lane, Bonnington, BC, Lorrelei (Ron) Breton, Calgary AB. She loved and cherished each of her 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also survived by one sister Jytte, brother Jan of Denmark and their families. Christina (Kenth) Elven of Sweden. She will also be missed by George Lane, special friends from Stettler, Big Valley, Red Deer, Nelson BC and all points in between. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Knud Jorgensen, brother Prepin and special friend Peter Cooper. In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the Big Valley hall in memory of Edel Jorgensen. A celebration of mom's life will be held at the Big Valley hall Tuesday Aug. 7, 2007 at 3:30 pm. Rev. Susan Bowyer officiating. A private burial will be conducted at a later date.
