MURRAY, Edith Hazel

1924 ~ 2017

Edith Hazel Murray passed away peacefully at Villa Marie Covenant Care on November 21, 2017 at the age of 93.

Hazel was born in Didsbury, Alberta, but also spent time living in Olds and Rocky Mountain House, later moving to Red Deer, where she trained and worked as a Mental Deficiency Nurse at the Provincial Training School. During this time, she met the love of her life, Danny Murray, and they were married in September of 1945, after Danny returned from his last tour in the Air Force.

Family and friends were at the center of their lives with many memorable camping trips, vacations, and curling bonspiels. Many years of golf and card games led to lifelong friendships for Dan and Hazel. The Murray home was often a gathering place for both family and friends, where Hazel was the ultimate cook and hostess, and on birthdays always contributing her famous chocolate chip cake.

Over the years, they spent a lot of time travelling throughout the USA, Europe and Australia, finally settling on Cayucos, California as a winter golf destination, where family and friends from near and far got together over the years.

The light of Hazel's life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a loving, caring and generous "Grammie" and treasured the time surrounded by her family. There were always cookies and tea to compliment those visits. In her younger "Grammie" years, she could be found playing broom hockey in the basement with Jeff, baking in the kitchen with Kristin, making soap bubbles in the kitchen sink, teaching many different card games and sharing her love of golf.

Hazel was predeceased by her parents, Ivan and Cassie Wilson; husband, Danny; and brothers, Arnold and Spencer.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Rod (Carol) Murray; daughter Arlene (Murray) Murray; grandchildren Jeff (Jill) Murray and Kristen (Logan) Soppit; great grandchildren Brendan, Emma and Rhyan Murray; and Ryder and Nixon Soppit. She is survived by her sisters Vera O'Keefe and Clara Hamilton Scrimgeour; as well as, nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by many bridge and golf companions.

Hazel's family would like to sincerely thank Dr. C. Holmes, Ruby, Lynn, and all the staff at Villa Marie Care Centre for their compassionate care, especially over the past few weeks.

As per Hazel's request, there will be no funeral service. If desired, memorial donations in Hazel's honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
