Edward DIETRICH

DIETRICH Edward James Ed passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 76 years. Ed is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Johanna; sister Germaine Brausen; brother Phillip (Marlene) Dietrich; step-sisters Lois Brausen and Bernice Tuff; step-brother Allen (Bert) Kuntz; step-sister-in-law Lauraine Kuntz; sisters-in-law Sister Marlene Schuster and Doris Dietrich; brother-in-law John Schuster and multitudes of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents James and Germaine Dietrich; step-mother Mary Dietrich; brothers Alfred Dietrich, and Cecil Dietrich; step-brothers Sylvester and Marvin Kuntz; step-sister Iris Chase; step-sister-in-law Agnes Kuntz; brothers-in-law Glen Brausen, Frank and Carl Schuster as well as his sister-in-law LaVerne Dietrich. Ed was born December 7, 1931 at Heisler, Alberta and was raised on the family farm and attended grade school at Greenock School. Ed left the farm to work for a telephone company and later worked in the oil and gas industry. After suffering a work related injury, he attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology where he completed training as a Drafting Technician. Upon completing his training, he began working with the Red Deer Regional Planning Commission. In 1966, Ed was united in marriage to Johanna Schuster. The couple moved to Sylvan Lake and Ed continued with the Planning Commission for over 30 years. During this time, he also served for 9 years on the Sylvan Lake Town Council. Ed retire in 1991 and quickly started his next career in volunteering with Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association, the Sylvan Lake Chapter of Scouts Canada, as well as with the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Sylvan Lake since their inception. His deep Christian faith was evidenced in his involvement in the liturgical ministries of the church and parish. Ed will be greatly missed by the community and church, as well as all his relatives and friends. A Prayer Service will be held at Our Lady Of Assumption Catholic Church, 5033 47A Ave., Sylvan Lake, on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Celebrant Reverend Father Victor Eze. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Ed’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
