Elinor COWLING

COWLING Elinor Mary 1916 - 2006 Elinor Cowling passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital, in Lacombe Alberta on October 28, 2006 in her 90th year. Her parents farmed in the Gap View area in SK, where she attended the Gap View School to grade 10, then finished her high school by correspondence. When her Father was accidentally killed in 1931, her Mother tried to keep the farm up herself but sold it in 1936 and moved the family to Vancouver BC. Elinor had several jobs and received her diploma after attending business school. She was working at a war plant making gun parts when she met and married Micheal Jack Leasak on June 17, 1944. They had 3 children, Audrey (Charlie) Francouer of Rimbey, AB; John (Sylvia) Leasak of Cranbrook, BC and Bob (Noreen) Leasak of Lacombe, AB. Elinor's husband disappeared at sea on April 7, 1952. She then moved the family to Calgary where she was the janitor of two schools for three years, then moved to Turner Valley, where she worked as a secretary for Royalite Oil. She married her second husband, Les Cowling on October 25, 1969 and moved to Thunder Bay, ON. Les died of cancer on December 1, 1977. She then moved to Cranbrook BC. where she lived for 13 years. While in Cranbrook she worked as the secretary of the Cranbrook Alliance Church until the age of 65. She moved to Fernie where she lived until moving to Lacombe in 1997. She was a volunteer for the Cancer Society and Cranbrook Hospital Auxiliary and was active in the Royal Purple both in Thunder Bay and Cranbrook. She loved golfing, fishing, painting knitting, and most important her music. She could play the piano, organ, accordian, violin and guitar. She also sang in several choirs. She leaves to mourn her three children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She loved her family very much. Also by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents - John and Mary Fowlie, her husbands - Micheal Leasak and Les Cowling and her brother Ian Fowlie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday November 3, 2006 at Evangelical Free Church, 4619 C & E Trail, Lacombe, Alberta. There will be a reception at the Lacombe Royal Canadian Legion, 5138 - 49 Street, immediately following the service. Graveside services will be held in the Westview Cemetery, Cranbrook BC on Monday, November 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rintisch of the Cranbrook Alliance Church officiating. A reception to follow at the reception hall at McPherson Funeral Home 2200 - 2 Street South, Cranbrook BC. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
