LETOURNEAU Elsie Irene (nee Bawtinheimer) 1926-2008 Elsie passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on December 4, 2008, at the age of 82 years. Born in the Springvale district, east of Red Deer, Elsie spent her entire married and working life in the City of Red Deer. Taking her first job as a cashier in the Eaton's groceteria at the age of 15 years, she began what would become a long and varied career in customer service. With progressively more responsible positions as a sales clerk and cashier with Gish's Hardware, Ashdown's Hardware, and Builder's Hardware, she ultimately was hired by The Bay, where she worked for 20 years, as a clerk, trainer and supervisor, prior to her retirement in 1986. As a young woman Elsie enjoyed dancing, curling, golfing, camping, reading and summer vacations with the family. She loved to knit and crochet and amassed an amazing collection of afghans, bedspreads, sweaters and other unique items. Throughout her life, she always put family first and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted caregiver to several members of her immediate family, spending countless hours offering support and tending to the needs of others. She was also proud of the fact that she was a cancer survivor for more than 45 years. She was predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick) Letourneau, her parents, Elmer and Irene Bawtinheimer, as well as her four brothers: Norman, Leslie, Melford (Moon), and Harvey. She leaves to mourn her two sons Richard Wayne Letourneau of Calgary; Kenneth (Beverley) Letourneau of Red Deer; two grandsons Scott (Tracy) Letourneau of Airdrie; and Bradley (Vanessa) Letourneau of Red Deer; three sisters-in-law: Hilda Bawtinheimer, Marie Paradis and Yvette Letourneau; one brother-in-law: Napoleon Sarasin; plus numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral service will be held at Sunnybrook United Church, 12 Stanton Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
