Elsie SMITH

SMITH Elsie Isabell 1911 - 2008 Elsie (Carlson) Smith went peacefully to be with the Lord on October 29th at the age of 97 years. She was born at Lake Thelma, Alberta on September 11, 1911 and went to school at Collingwood School, Trochu and Calgary. She attended Camrose Normal School and went on to teach school for three years until her marriage to Gerald Smith in 1933. They moved to Pincher Creek and later to the Trochu area in 1942 where they farmed until moving to Red Deer in 1958. During their years in the Trochu area the family regularly attended Mayton Pentecostal Church. After moving to Red Deer, Mom was a faithful member of the Woodlea Pentecostal Church and served in various positions there. She moved to Bethany Care Centre in Sylvan Lake at the age of 93, and then to the RD Nursing Home in February of this year. Mom had a gentle spirit and the willingness to graciously adapt to the changes she had to make in her declining years. She was loved and appreciated by her family and by all who assisted in her care. Mom was predeceased by her husband Gerald in 1970, her son Allan in 2000 and great-grandson Damien in 2001, two brothers Gustave and Robert Carlson. She is survived by two sons: Edward (Beverly) of Kelowna, BC and Robert (Ellen) of Calgary; four daughters, Elsie (Doug) Simpson of Penticton, BC, Lois (Cliff) Sherwin of Kindersley, SK., Jessie (John) Wolf of St. Albert and Evelyn (Jim) Booth of Red Deer, and daughter-in-law Lorraine Smith of Calgary. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, one sister Thelma Cochrane of Kelowna, BC and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Carlson of Red Deer, and numerous nieces and nephews. Following a family burial, a Memorial Service will be held at Streams Christian Church, corner of 55th Street and 46th Avenue, Red Deer at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1.
