GRATTIDGE (ROBERT) ELWYN May 27, 1926 – July 29, 2006 Elwyn Grattidge passed away at the age of 80 years in Camrose. He will be remembered and missed by his wife Helen (Copeland) Grattidge; his children Kim (Keith) and Scott (Lorelee); grandchildren Graham, Aiden, Dawson and Clay, all of Cochrane, and siblings Walter (Karen), Audrey, and Elizabeth (Bill) and their families. Elwyn was born on May 27, 1926 in Manchester, England. At the age of 21 he came to Canada to assist his Aunt in farming a section near Elnora. After her death he continued to work the land and eventually purchased it from her heirs. In 1957 he visited his brother in Schenectady, New York and there he met Helen. They were married in 1958 and in 1962 he graduated from Cornell University. Elwyn returned to Alberta with Helen, this time to Camrose, where he worked as Assistant District Agriculturist from 1962 to 1965. He then started his own feedlot business, which he operated successfully until 1981. His next endeavor was to consult for the Alberta government on a wide range of farm benefit programs. In 1990 his career changed and be became a Marriage Commissioner, which he enjoyed for the rest of his life. Elwyn was very involved in his community and his numerous activities brought him friendships with people throughout Alberta and beyond, but his roots were in Camrose. Celebration of his life will be held at Camrose United Church on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 11a.m. with Rev. Brian Hunter of St. Mary’s Hospital Pastoral Care and Mary Ann Pastuck officiating.
