NAGY Ernest Nagy, 73, of Sylvan Lake, AB On August 22nd 2006, Ernie Nagy passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack, while returning from a successful fishing trip, in Humboldt Saskatchewan at the age of 73 years. Ernie is survived by his four children: Rodney Nagy of Grande Prairie, AB; Ernest Grant Nagy of Sylvan Lake, AB; Kenneth Nagy of Sylvan Lake, AB; James (Brenlie) Nagy of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter-in-law Kim Nagy of Sylvan Lake, AB; and his 4 grandchildren: Natashia, Michael, Lauren and Cole. He is also survived by his three brothers: William (Adele) Nagy of Humboldt Sask, Lawrence (Jose) Nagy of White Rock B.C, and Leonard (Marlene) Nagy of Melfort, Sask. He will be dearly missed by his close friend Violet Saffron of Eckville AB, his brothers and sisters–in-law, many cherished nieces and nephews and numerous close friends. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 1997, his mother, Mary Nagy in 1962; and his father Alex Nagy in 1995. Ernie was born on December 17, 1932 in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm. Ernie joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1953, Reg # 18116. He was trained in Regina and Ottawa, and then served as a constable in the communities of Peace River, Grande Prairie and Edmonton. An exemplary police officer, he retired from the RCMP in 1960. He then joined the Alberta Government Transportation Inspection Services Branch where he worked until his retirement in 1988 after 28 years of service. Ernie was a true outdoorsman and was happiest when he was hunting or fishing with his family or friends. He could often be found working in the garden or greenhouse, his work shop or around the acreage. Visitors who dropped by were always treated to Ernie's amazing hospitality with his annual pig roast being one of the highlights. He will be remembered for his great cooking, boundless energy and the love he has shown to his family. A prayer service will be held on Friday August 25th at 7:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Sylvan Lake. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 26th at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church 5033-47A Ave. Sylvan Lake with Father Victor Eze as celebrant and Father Paul Moret as co-celebrant. Internment will follow in the Sylvan Lake Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made in Ernie's memory to Stars Air Ambulance or charity of the donor's choice.
