FREEDMAN Mrs. Patricia Gail Freedman passed away at the Red Deer Hospice with family by her side on Monday, May 8th, 2006 at the age of 58 years. Patty will be dearly missed by her beloved husband Dr. Joe Freedman, as well as her daughters Angela and her husband Johnny Oshika of Vancouver, and Jessica Freedman of Calgary. She will also be remembered by Doug and Johanna Melson of Edmonton, Maurice and Donna Freedman of Cochrane, Tim and Angela Freedman from Edmonton, as well as Jodi Melson and Jim McMahon, and Phil Melson and his daughter Kennedy. Her family also wishes to acknowledge Patti Morris and many other compassionate friends and caregivers for their invaluable support. Patty was predeceased by her parents Philip and Nancy Melson. Patty was born in Drumheller, grew up in the Crowsnest Pass, and completed high school in Edmonton. Her brother Doug introduced Pat to Joe Freedman and they were married in 1971. They enjoyed the first years of their marriage travelling and in 1976 they were blessed with the birth of their first daughter Angie. In 1980 their second child, Jessica, was born while the family was living in Nelson, New Zealand. Shortly after their sojourn down under, the Freedman family embarked on a two and half year work term in Saudi Arabia. In 1984 they returned to Red Deer and Patty dedicated herself to her family, home and beloved collies. She eventually returned to school and in 1993 convocated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the first nursing class to graduate from Red Deer College. Upon retirement, Pat and Joe enjoyed golf, winters in Arizona, and socializing with friends. Above all, Patty's life was centered around her family. All who knew her will remember Pat as warm, selfless and genuine. A memorial service in memory of Pat Freedman will be held at the Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 - 67A Street Red Deer on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Alto Reste Memorial Gardens, Red Deer County.
