George JACOBS

JACOBS George (Jake) Jacobs passed away at the Didsbury Hospital on Saturday, July 14th, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Jake was born on April 3, 1940 at Camrose, AB. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1964 with an Education degree. Jake taught for 6 years at James Fowler High School before moving to Sylvan Lake for the remainder of his career where he taught and served as Vice Principal until his retirement in 1996. Jake was a founding member of the Red Deer Titans Rugby club in 1972 and was active as a player and referee for many years. Jake loved sports and teaching and brought these together with many hours dedicated to coaching football, basketball and volleyball. Jake will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Luella of 43 years, son Dean and partner Lucy of Calgary, daughter Jodie and husband David Murray of Calgary and grandchildren, Kieran, Hayley, Shane, Michael, Caleb and Alexander. He is also survived by his brother, Robert and wife Helen of Surprise, AZ and sister, Shirlee Ann and Husband Brian Hedderick of Scottsdale, AZ. A celebration of Jake's life will be held on Thursday, July 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Sylvan Lake Branch #212 at 4916 50 Avenue. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre 1331 29th Street N.W, Calgary, AB. T2N 4N2.
