GUSEK Mrs. Winnifred Agnes Louise Gusek formerly of Rimbey, passed away in the Bethany Care Centre at Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Sunday June 5, 2005 at the age of 91 years. Born and raised in London, England, Winnifred received her education in England and trained as a registered nurse at Royal Northern Hospital in London. During W.W. II, Winnifred met Gus Gusek. They were married on April 17, 1943 at St. Mary’s Parish Church in London. Chloe and Penny were born in the United Kingdom. In 1945, the family moved to Canada. They settled in Lacombe and later began farming in the Rimbey area. Mervyn was born while the family lived in Lacombe and Pat and Janet were born in Rimbey. While living in Rimbey, Winnie returned to her passion, nursing and worked at the old three way hospital and the Rimbey General Hospital. She retired in 1978. They continued to live in the Rimbey area, spending a few years in Strathmore, Alberta and finally returning to the Rimbey Lodge. Gus passed away in 2003 and Winnie moved to the Bethany Care Centre in Sylvan Lake. Predeceased by her loving husband Gus, her parents; George and Anna Doig, one step-sister; Patricia Catherine and one step-brother; Ian Patterson, Winnie is survived by her loving family, four daughters; Brenda Chloe (Darryl) Lester of Sylvan Lake, Penelope Cumberland of Medicine Hat, Janet McLean of Edmonton, Patricia (Dennis) Fox of Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, one son; Mervyn (Lorraine) Gusek of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Rimbey United Church on Friday June 10, 2005 at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will follow in the West Haven cemetery Rimbey, Alberta. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Amnesty International or the Canadian Red Cross.
