ROTH Hazel Hilda (Helmig) Roth passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the age of 72 years. Hazel was born in Daysland, Alberta on May 28, 1934. She met and married Don Roth in 1953. Eleven years later they moved from Calgary to a mixed farm in the Elnora community where they remained for 35 years until their retirement to Olds in 1999. Don passed away in May 2000. Hazel was a full partner on the farm, working with livestock and operating equipment, her specialty being the combine. She was an active member of the Elnora community and supplied countless pies and other baking to the curling rink, neighbors and various local events. Hazel was a homemaker, working with the Red Deer Family Service Bureau for 11 years. She was especially proud of the Homemaker Handbook she developed and had copyright for with her dear friends and co-workers Eilein Connelly and Helen Cook. She loved people and their stories and will be missed by countless circles of friends and acquaintances. Hazel will be greatly missed by her children Shauna (Ken) Foster and Charlene (Jim) Schramm; five grandchildren Derrick, Dean, Cassia, Kellie and Daniel; four brothers Lorne (Shirley) Helmig of Cochrane, Glen Helmig of Leduc, Bruce (Shirley) Helmig of Camrose, Brian (Donna) Helmig of Hinton; one sister Fern Borgel of Stettler as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Don and her sister-in-law Layola Helmig. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Olds. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Olds with Father Les Drewicki celebrant. Interment to follow in the Elnora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society, Elnora Community Cemetery Fund or the charity of choice.
