Herbert WECKER

WECKER Herbert John Wecker of Lacombe passed away in the Lacombe General Hospital October 10, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Herb was born in Fox Valley, Sask. on May 8, 1918. In 1949, after the death of his father at an early age, he came to Alberta to find work to help support the family. He worked on farms in the Bentley area for awhile. It was here that he began his life-long career in carpentry. In 1949 he moved to Regina to work with a construction company and later was self-employed until his retirement in the early 80's. After coming to Regina he met and married his wife, Miriam in 1952. During his retirement years he spent three years in Rwanda volunteering in the construction of a school. Herb was an active member of his church and community for many years and will be missed. He spent fifty-five years in Regina before moving to Lacombe for the last few years of his life. Herb was predeceased by his wife Miriam, sisters Mary and Olive, and brothers Elmer and Alvin. He will be missed by his son Barry (Alberta), Arthurette, NB, daughters Sharon (Rick) Fleck, Karen Wecker, both of Vancouver, WA, and Cynthia (Dave) Miller of Winnipeg, MB, sister Viola Devnich, Lacombe, AB, brother Walter of Kelowna BC, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Lacombe Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5810-45 Ave, Lacombe AB on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 3:00 pm. A second memorial service will be held in Regina, SK at the Hill Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3720 Hill Ave on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Prolasa Canada, 2137 Route 109, Arthurette, NB E7H 4B6.
