Howard ARMSTRONG

ARMSTRONG Howard Armstrong of Lacombe, Alberta, passed away on October 25, 2005. Born to Mary and George Armstrong on March 19, 1920, Howard was 1 of 9 children growing up in the Eclipse area. Howard worked many different jobs in Alberta until he worked permanently at the Lacombe Research Station as Shop Foreman doing heavy duty mechanic work for 35 years. He helped build the Pavilion that still stands and was responsible for planting the long rows of Spruce trees that are at the entrance to the Research Station (then known as the Experimental Farm). Howard married Doris in 1941 and for over 60 years they have maintained residence on 58th Street where Howard fixed a lot of small engines and did wood working. If you needed a mechanical part of any kind, Howard had it. Howard was responsible for 58th Street getting water from the town in the early fifties. He was also actively involved in the building of the present Legion Hall where he called Bingo for many years. Howard and a group of men were instrumental in the establishment of the curling league and the Horseshoe Club. Over the years he enjoyed work, camping, fishing, woodworking, and telling stories with friends at the local pub. Howard is survived by his wife Doris, his son Richard (Lorna Dewar); his daughter Irene (Norm Brosseuk), and his daughter Marlene (Greg Winnichuk). Howard has 8 grandchildren whom he spoiled whenever he could and also 9 great grandchildren. Howard also leaves 2 sisters, Velma and Jean, and 2 brothers, Bud and Robert. He was predeceased by siblings Donnie, Jackie, Tommy, and Mary Ellen. A quiet service will be held for Howard on Monday, October 31, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Long Term Care Facility at the Lacombe Community Health Care Centre, 5430-47 Avenue, Lacombe, Alberta T4L 1G8 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
