JACOBSON 1916- 2007 Mr. Fred Jacobson, beloved husband of Marie, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the age of 92 years. He was born on January 8, 1916 in Edmonton. In 1936, at the age of twenty years, Fred was the youngest Safeway Store Manager in Edmonton. Managing the first large store, where the first training school was held for new employees. Fred and Marie were married in 1940 in Lethbridge. Their son John was born in 1942. He joined the R.C.N.V.R. as a Supply Assistant, serving in Halifax and St. John’s, Newfound Land. After Fred was discharged he returned to Safeway until moving to Stettler and starting the, J and P Food Store. He sold out to his partner and went to work for the Quaker Oats Corporation, Central Alberta being the territory that he looked after. In 1948 the family moved to Red Deer. Fred with the help of Marie built and operated The Hill Motel (now the site of The Travlers Inn) in 1952. He sold the business in 1964 and took some time to travel. After an extensive trip to Mexico City and the West Coast, Fred returned to Red Deer and was a realtor until retirement in 1976. He is survived by a sister, three nieces, Kay Williamson of Calgary, Dallis (Ian) Sissons of Clive, Jill Galt (Lee Strumski) of Pennsylvania, United States, three nephews, Jack (Lorraine) Lock, Ewart (Eva) Lock both of Chilliwack and Larry Galt of Yellowknife. Fred was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie, his son, John in 1974, two brothers, Bill and Paul and three sisters, Emily Williamson, Adrian Bailey and Lottie Lock. At Fred’s request he wished to be intered at the family plot in the Red Deer Cemetery.
