James AELLEN

AELLEN James R. (Jim) Aellen, much loved father, grandfather, great grandfather died February 2nd, 2007 at 93 years of age. He was born December 25, 1913 in Calgary, son of Robert and Violet Aellen. Jim began his working life as a telegraph deliverer with the CPR at a young age, supporting his family after the untimely death of his father. In 1936 he entered the painting/decorating trade. He served his country during World War II, first in Canada with the Royal Canadian Engineers, then overseas with the 7th Canadian Infantry Training Regiment. While based in Chilliwack he met Eileen McCutcheon and they married April 7, 1944. After the war, the Aellens ranched west of Cochrane before settling in Red Deer in 1952. Jim resumed his career as a painter at Michener Centre (and its predecessors) for over 26 years, retiring in 1978. Jim and Eileen were active members of Sunnybrook United Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking with his family well into his senior years. He was an avid photographer and member of the Waskasoo Camera Club and the Prairie Region of Photographic Art. Jim was predeceased by Eileen in 2000. He will be lovingly remembered, celebrated and missed by his children; Robert (Louise) Aellen, Linda (Grant) Howell, Don (Carolyn) Aellen; by his grandchildren Elizabeth (Mark) Metrunec, Andrew (Jackie) Aellen, Michael Howell and Mark Howell; and by his great grandchildren Catherine, Megan, Jacob, Molly and Clara. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing at the Eventide Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 5th, between the hours of 6-8pm. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Sunnybrook United Church on Tuesday, February 6th at 11am.
