James WOOD

WOOD James “Jim” Owen Wood passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the Innisfail Hospital at the age of 70 years. Jim was born December 19, 1934 on the family farm near Delburne and grew up in the Elnora district. At the age of 17, Jim joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Edmonton where he met his wife Eleanor. In August 1960, Jim and Eleanor were married at CFB Namao and were soon transferred to Ottawa. Jim and Eleanor had their first son Brandon in Ottawa in 1962. After four years in Ottawa they were transferred back to Alberta and were stationed at CFB Cold Lake. In 1965 they had a daughter Valerie, and in 1970, a son Darcy. Jim was then transferred to CFB Namao and the family lived in Morinville. He also worked the family farm located in the Elnora district while continuing his career in the RCAF. He was the consummate weekend farmer enduring long commutes from Cold Lake to Elnora. In 1978, Jim retired from the RCAF and moved his family to Innisfail. Jim continued to farm and became a partner in a construction equipment rental shop located in Red Deer. He got out of the rental business and started Innisfail Small Engine & Repair in 1990 and continued to run it until his passing. Jim will be dearly missed b y his loving wife of 45 years, Eleanor Wood; his children, Brandon, Valerie (Bill) Tokaryk, and Darcy (Amanda); his grandchildren, Amber, Jaclyn, Courtland, and Brenton; his brother, George Wood of Red Deer; his sisters, Betty (Omer) Villecourt of High River, Marg (Lou) Boudreau of Edmonton, and Barb (Ron) Schlaht of Airdrie and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim had a love for farming as well as repairing equipment. If you could catch Jim out of his shop he could be found at the rink or ball diamond watching his children and grandchildren playing baseball or hockey.
