JAMES

September 9, 2006

JAMES, June 14, 1919 - Sept. 5, 2006 It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Alfred "Alf", dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on September 5th, at the Club Sierra Adult Retirement Residence. Alf had been in failing health for several years, and this year was placed on constant oxygen. Alf was a Canadian Army W.W.II Veteran, and was wounded during the liberation of Holland near Bergen-op-Zoom in 1944. In November 1943 he married Irene in England, while she was a member of the A.T.S. British Army. Alf and Irene farmed for four years west of Carstairs, upon Alf's discharge from the Colonel Belcher hospital, Calgary. Thereafter Alf bought grain for the Alberta Wheat Pool Company at Ardenode, Tees and Blackfalds, gaining many life-long friends. Alf then became a Fire Inspector of Grain Elevators in the Province of Alberta for all Pool Elevators. He was an avid sports enthusiast. Hockey was his passion, never missing a Saturday night Oilers game on T.V. Alf was predeceased by his father Edmund, mother Emily and sister Margaret. Alf is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Irene, sons David and Edmund, daughter Kathy, son-in-law Murray, daughters-in-law Sharon and Patty. Brother and wife Glen and Sharon, and sisters Phyllis and Audrey (Carstairs) Grandchildren, Steven, Shane, Dustin and Cody, Cheryl, Adelle, Kara and Trina, and their significant others, Janice, Erin, Ron, Patrick, Christopher. Great-grandchildren, Kira, Ethan, Maren, Reid and Quinn. Alf was a loving family man. His motto was "family first". He was always willing and able to lend a hand. He introduced and served as a Boy Scouts' Leader at Tees, Alberta. His strength began to fail later this year, and he could only sit and watch. We will always be grateful for his undying love and support of us all. He will live on in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will always treasure the memories. If so desired, donations may be made in memoriam to Alberta Lung Association or to Canadian Diabetes Association. No Funeral or Memorial Service is planned at Alf's request. Cremation has taken place in care of Parkland Crematorium, Red Deer.
