On Sept 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, Janet Lightbown of Eckville passed away at the Red Deer Hospice.

Janet will be lovingly remembered by her children Karen (Jim) Tubbs of Eckville, Myrna (Pete) McLellan of Rocky, Garry (Donna) Lightbown of Sylvan Lake, Murray (Susan) Lightbown of Eckville, and Dean (Corey) Lightbown of Red Deer, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one sister Pat Setters of Red Deer, 3 sister’s in law Kit Lightbown of Sylvan Lake, Darline Klatt of Sylvan Lake, and Pat Lightbown of Red Deer.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bud), grandson Jamie Tubbs, parents Jim and Helen Brown, brothers Jim and Alex Brown, sister Mary Medin, 3 sister’s in law, and 6 brother’s in law.

Janet was born on Nov 19, 1930 on the family farm in the Gaetz district. She attended Gaetz, Bluebell, and Eckville schools. In 1952, she married Bud and they started their family in Eckville. Janet was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Ladies Aid, and always a willing volunteer for many other causes.

Janet loved many things in life including gladiola’s, baseball, music by Charlie Pride, the bagpipes, the Oilers, but especially loved her grandchildren and always cherished her time with family. Her grandkids will remember her for sneeking them pop or candy, sleep overs, porridge for breakfast, cinnamon buns, grilled cheeze sandwich’s, and her amazing turkey gravy.

Funeral services for Janet will take place at 2:30 pm, September 7, 2017 at the Eckville Community Hall.

We want to thank the staff of the Red Deer Hospital, the Red Deer Hospice, and especially the staff of the Eckville Manor for the tremendous care she received in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eckville Manor House charitable society or of the donor’s choice.
