July 14, 2008

BARKER Joel Byron Barker passed away suddenly on July 9, 2008 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 61 years, surrounded by his family. Joel lived several places including Sylvan Lake, Fort Saskatchewan and most currently Red Deer, AB. Joel did many things during his lifetime, including working on oil rigs, owning his own trucking company, owning a car dealership and overseeing one of the largest construction firms in Alberta. Joel always took the time to have fun. If he was not working, he was riding his Harley, travelling to Mexico, downhill skiing, jet boating, ski-doing, dirt-biking, camping; if it sounded like fun, he was all over it. Joel will be sadly missed by his two children, Tina (Shane) Leer and Chad (DeNyse) Barker; and two grandchildren, Zachery Leer and Cassidy Barker. He is survived by four brothers; Sandford Barker, John (Susan) Barker, Art Barker, Todd (Nadine) Graham and three sisters; Margaret (Ron) Rogeau, Helen Sandham and Rosemary (George) Brown. Joel also had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Ralph Barker on March 12, 1960. Memorial services will be held at the Kurt Browning Arena in Caroline, AB on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.; lunch and fellowship to immediately follow service.
