John BARNES

June 6, 2007

BARNES John Lamont (Jack) Barnes of Elnora passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the age of 69 years. Jack lived his life in the Elnora area. He worked at numerous jobs including driving trucks, seismic and oil rigs as well as attending Olds College. Jack married Sharon Walton on Nov. 20, 1959 and together they began their life on the farm. Jack farmed with his brother Alan for many years. When Pat and Kathy were young, Jack was very involved in their 4-H club and gymkanas. His life was centered on his family and the farm with a true dedication to the care of his animals and the land, which he has instilled in his children and grandchildren. In 2005, Jack and Sharon realized their dream of retiring and moved east of Elnora. He loved all that their new place had to offer. Jack touched the lives of many people with his quiet dignity, generosity and strong work ethic. He truly enjoyed the cowboy way of life. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 471/2 years Sharon; daughter Pat (John) Christensen; daughter, Kathy (Dean) Tucker and four very special grandchildren; Shane (Bev) Christensen, Brad Christensen (Chelsey Szakaly), Austin Pisko (Shayleen Marek) and Hannah Tucker and his great grandson, Chase Christensen, all of whom were the light in his life. Jack is also survived by his sisters and brother, Dorothy and Bob Empey, Helen Neufeld, Alan and Irma Barnes, Kay Gall, Jean and Glen Ferguson, and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of good friends. He was predeceased by his parents C.A. (John) and Katherine Barnes and one nephew Alan Empey. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Elnora Fire Department Rescue Truck (P.O. Box 707, Elnora, AB. T0M 0Y0) or to STARS Air Ambulance (1441 Aviation Park N.E. P.O. Box 570, Calgary, AB. T2E 9Z9) both favorite charities of Jack’s. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Elnora Community Hall on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Margaret Lange officiating. Arrangements entrusted to: METCALF FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4200 49th Ave., Innisfail, AB. Phone 227-3123. Proudly serving our community for over 45 years.
