John COOPER

COOPER John "Jack" Walter Cooper of Delburne, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born in Stettler, Alberta, and took his early schooling at Warden, Alberta (Stewartwyn) as well as Wheatfield School in Cluny, Alberta. He graduated from the Olds School of Agriculture in 1938. In 1939 he married Eva Jones of Gleichen, Alberta, and farmed in the area until 1941 when he enlisted in the Canadian Army with the PPCLI. His army career spanned 35 years. He did a tour of duty in Germany with the 27th Brigade and was then stationed in Quebec City and Calgary with the Canadian Guards. He spent many years training cadets in Banff and Central Alberta. Jack first came to Delburne in 1948, and after many different postings retired back to Delburne in 1976, where they again called Delburne home. He was very active in the community, always willing to lend a helping hand and was known to everyone as "911 Jack". He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many dear friends. Jack leaves to mourn his 5 children; John Cooper (Doris) of Priddis, Lorna Bonham of Delburne, Butch Cooper (Joan) of Calgary, Marlene Wipf (Andy) of Black Diamond, Pat Beveridge (Lloyd) of Calgary, Sister-in-law Rosemary Jones of Delburne, and Sister Edith Shepard of Calgary, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Eva of 59 years (1998), Son-in-law Jerry Bonham (1989), Daughter-in-law Carole Cooper (2004), his Mother Emily Cooper (1975), and his Father Walter Percival Cooper (1922). Funeral services will be held at the Delburne Community Hall Friday February 3rd at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Lance Penny officiating. A private family interment will be held at the Delburne Cemetery. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Delburne Seniors Drop-In Center or The Royal Canadian Legion.
