MCLAWS John Douglas 1932-2005. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, John Douglas McLaws, on Thursday, August 18, 2005 in Didsbury, Alberta, surrounded by his family, John passed away at the age of 73 years after a courageous battle with cancer. John leaves to mourn Mary, his wife best friend of fifty years; three daughters, Lori McLaws (Cheryl), Jan McMullen (Brian) and Tammy Dickson (Barry); four special grandchildren, Ian and Steven McMullen and Courtney and Connor Dickson; one sister, Dorothy Northcott (Bob), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father Walter in 1974; and his mother Alice in 1985. John was born on July 17, 1932 in Calgary. He was proud of his career as a power lineman that began with the Farm Electric Company in 1949 and continued until his retirement from Trans Alta Utilities in 1988. John met Mary in Hughenden and they were married in 1954. Through his early work, John and Mary had the opportunity to live in several rural communities of Alberta, where they made many life long friends. They have resided in Didsbury since 1965. John will be remembered as a fun- loving, good-spirited person. He enjoyed family gatherings, coffee with "the boys" and camping in summers. John embraced every opportunity to learn new skills and his retirement years were filled with activity. He took particular pleasure in helping family and friends whenever the opportunity arose. We will miss him greatly. Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, Didsbury, Alberta (1406-19th Avenue) on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Robert Moore officiating. A Family Graveside Service will be held at the Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta at a later date.
