BARRY Joseph (Joe) Joseph James Barry of Lacombe passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 3, 2007 at the Lacombe Hospital at the age of 71 after a brief illness. Joe was born in Calgary November 30, 1935 to Blanche and Joseph Barry. In 1956 he married his lifetime love Naomi. Their life began with the birth of their first son Joe in 1957 followed by the birth of a daughter Brenda in 1959. After moving from Calgary to Blackfalds another daughter Kathy was born in 1961. Finally their family was complete with the birth of another son John in 1965. In 1974 the family moved from Blackfalds to an acreage north of Lacombe where Joe resided until his passing. Joe worked for 32 years for The Advocate in Red Deer. Upon his retirement he spent his time visiting with family and friends in numerous parts of Alberta and B.C. When at home you could find Joe working on one of his many projects from repairing something purchased at a garage sale to vehicle restoration. He will be forever loved and remembered by his loving wife of 50 years Naomi; his children Joe (Elaine) of Dawson Creek B.C., Brenda of Blackfalds, Kathy (Jeff) Schneider of Lacombe and John (Kelly) of Innisfail; his grandchildren Carmen (Damon), Megan (Matt), Dana, R.J., Krysten, Katelyn and one great grandson Brayden. As well he is survived by his mother and stepfather Blanche and Reg Douglas; brother Jack (Henrietta); sisters Eleanor and Shirley (Bob); sisters in law Marlene, Diane (Arnold); brother in law Gary (Maureen) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Joseph in 1947; mother in law Betty in 1980; brother in law Joe in 2002 and daughter in law Denise in 2004. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church (5128-53 Street Lacombe, Alberta) on Thursday January 11, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Blackfalds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Lacombe Palliative Care Society (Box 5576 Lacombe, AB. T4L 1X2) or to a charity of one's Choice. As a memorial tribute to Joseph Barry a tree will be planted in the Tree Memorial Park (Innisfail) by HEARTLAND FUNERAL SERVICES LTD.
