LOWIS, Joseph

(1917-2017)


Joe Lowis of Lacombe passed away on February 18, 2017 at the age of 99. Joe was born in Coronation and attended the Onward School. In 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery and was involved in action in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and Great Britain. In November of 1945, Dorothy became his war bride. Joe and Dode farmed east of Lacombe for two years. In 1948 they bought a farm in Poplar Ridge. Joe was active with the Community Centre and always had time to help neighbours. In 1985, Joe and Dode retired to Red Deer where they could enjoy gardening, camping, friends and family. In 2005, they moved to Lacombe.

Joe was a devoted husband and encouraging father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Dode, in 2007.

He is survived by his children Rhonda (Don) and Glenda (Bruce); grandchildren Meredith (Jeff), Robyn (Brendan), Erin (Ryan), and Sean; great grandchildren Fearon and Bowen; sister in law Etta; cousin Marie; and niece Rita.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church in Lacombe on Friday February 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting www.wilsonsfuneralchapel.ca.
