BEECHINOR Joyce Beechinor (nee: Birkenhead) passed away peacefully at her home on the farm near Bentley on February 6, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Joyce was born in a shack on her father’s homestead near Mantario, Saskatchewan January 30. 1921. She married David Beechinor and they farmed the homestead before moving to the farm near Bentley in 1950. Not only did she take an active part in the farming, but she enjoyed gardening and took special pride in her flower gardens. She always welcomed friends and relatives to come for a cup of tea and to stay for a visit. She particularly enjoyed having relatives from England come and she traveled to England when possible. She always welcomed her children and grandchildren and made each feel special. She lovingly made blankets for her great grandchildren. The homestead in Mantario remained dear to her heart. Each summer, including the summer of 2006, she visited the homestead. Predeceased by her husband, David; her parents, Dora and Thomas, her sister Sylvia, son-in-law Bill Magas, 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law, Joyce is survived by four daughters, Donna (Victor) in Edmonton; Lorna (George) of Bentley; Linda (Bud) of Fort McMurray; Velvet (Laurence) of Saskatoon; and two sons, Larry (Linda) of Kindersley and Barney (Melody) of Bentley; seventeen grand-children and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Alan (Ruth) Birkenhead of Abbotsford and brothers-in-law, Max Coates of Saskatoon and Ken Roe of Calgary as well as special cousins in England and Wales. At Joyce’s request, there will be no funeral service. Due to inclement weather a graveside service will be held at the Bentley Ag Centre on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Bentley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the STARS Air Ambulance 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 8M7 or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta #101, 5208 - 53rd Ave. Red Deer, AB T4N 5K2, or the charity of the donors choice.
