LAYDEN

October 31, 2007

LAYDEN It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Layden announces her passing on October 25, 2007, at the Rosefield Centre, Innisfail, at the age of 92 years. Mother was born on December 6, 1914, in Innisfail to Tom and Elizabeth Marks, the sixth of eight children. Before she and Gordon Layden were married December 31, 1936, she was employed as a telephone operator in Innisfail, a job she enjoyed immensely. She and Gordon farmed for many years with their sons in the Knee Hill Valley district. Mother grew huge gardens and tended beautiful flower beds. She enjoyed their many trips around the world and their cruises to warmer climates. Mother was known for her hospitality, and her bountiful meals were appreciated by their many friends and family members. In her later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren, ceramics and going to the Farmers' Market. Mother is lovingly remembered by her three sons and their wives: Ken (Gloria), Mervin (Pat) and Larry (Lorraine). She was a very special grandmother to eight grandchildren: Rick (Karen), Trevor (Kari), Vance (Tonya), Bruce (Valarie), Tricia (Elliott), Scott (Debbie), Darren (Laurie-Anne), and Darryl (Heather). She is survived by one sister, Vivian Stewart, 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her great-grandson Geoffrey Layden in 1999, and her husband Gordon in 2001. A funeral service will be held at the Innisfail Legion on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 11:00 A.M., Willis Propp, Merlin Affleck and Thelma Galbraith officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the CI Unit, Rosefield Centre, 5023 -42 Street, Innisfail AB, T4G IA9.
