HEIGHTON Lee Roy Calvin “Cal” Heighton succumbed to cancer on Monday, June 13, 2005 at the age of 64 years. Cal was born in Trail, B.C.. In 1957, at the age of 15, he joined the apprenticeship training program in the military and received honors as the best all round apprentice soldier and artillery man. During his 34 years of military service, he lived in Germany for 6 years and was also a Peacekeeper in Cyprus. After his retirement from the military, Cal was a Commissionaire at the Red Deer College. Cal will be remembered for his dedication to the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Red Deer every November 11th, leading the Legion color party as parade commander. Always the life of the party, Cal brought joy and laughter to all around him and even did so with the hospital staff at the end. He certainly left his mark. Lee Roy Calvin “Cal” Heighton is survived by his loving wife Josie of 40 years; one son Calvin of Red Deer, one daughter Kim (Matt) Gralton of Australia and a granddaughter Taylor Lee Gralton. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters. Cal was predeceased by both of his parents. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2005 at 2 pm at the Alto Reste Memorial Gardens with The Reverend Don Lewis officiating. Following the graveside service, a reception will be held at 2:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 2810 – Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cal’s memory may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Bag 5030, Red Deer Regional Hospital, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 6R2.
