LEMKE Mrs. Irene Evelyn Lemke of Red Deer, Alberta went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the age of 76 years after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Helmut of 58 years and forever missed by two daughters; Linda (James) Hartrick of Leduc, and Theresa (Jack) Westera of Red Deer, one sister, Alma Hartstok of Red Deer, eight loving grandchildren, and two precious great grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by one daughter, Judy Zaback (November 2005), three sisters, and five brothers. Irene was born in Leduc, raised on the family farm and attended school in the Blackmud district. In 1948 Irene and Helmut were married and moved to a farm in the Craig District west of Red Deer where they raised three daughters. Irene was organist at Christ Lutheran Church for many years and was active in the local community where she shared her love for music, crocheting and needlework. In 1975 Irene and Helmut sold the family farm and moved to Red Deer where she began a new career working in the Betty Shop and D’Allairds stores. Retirement brought relaxing winter holidays in Arizona plus touring Canada and the U.S. in their RV. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer, AB. at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held on Thursday June 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, #18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer, AB with Pastor James Schuelke officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot in Alto-Reste Memorial Gardens.
