Leo GOMMERUD

GOMMERUD Leo Orwell Gommerud passed away peacefully at Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, May 8, 2006 at the age of 88 years. Leo was born in Grassy Lake Alberta February 13, 1918. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather as well as a good friend to many. He will always be remembered by his great sense of humor which he kept to the end. Leo will be cherished in memory by, two sons, Peter (Karen McNaughton) and Murray (Robin Armitage) two sisters, Ileen Bunton of Lethbridge and Fay Cooper of Beaverlodge, sister in law Helen Holm of Drumheller and brother in law Don (Thora) Hood of Campbell River. He will also be treasured by his grand children Simon, Oliver and Duncan of Edmonton and Heather (Edmonton), Michelle (Chris) Wilson (Sylvan Lake), Mark (Patricia) (Red Deer), Michael (Tina) (Lethbridge), Ryan (Erin) Gillies of Red Deer and Chad (Tammy)Gillies of Red Deer as well as great grand children Payton, Kale, Ava, Gabriel and Carter. Leo’s nieces and nephews were very special to him as were his friends who will keep his memory in their hearts. Leo was predeceased by his dear wife of 55 years, Frances in 1997. Leo was born and raised in Grassy Lake Alberta and moved to the Spring Coulee area in 1933. He married Frances in 1943 prior to going overseas with the Canadian Forces for three years. After the war, he returned and moved with Frances to Southern Alberta. In 1964 the family moved to the Three Hills area, Allingham and then into town in 1969 where he worked at the P&H seed plant and later the IGA. After Frances passed, Leo moved to the Golden Hills Lodge where he had many wonderful friends both residents and staff. In 2003, Leo moved to Red Deer to be closer to his two Sons and their families. The family would like to sincerely thank Correct Care and their wonderful Staff for their care and compassion and especially Amanda who spent many hours laughing and joking with Leo. Memorial services for Leo will be at Knox United Church in Three Hills, Friday May 26 at 1:00 PM.
