Lois HAINSWORTH

November 30, 2006

HAINSWORTH Lois Hainsworth (nee Hanes) passed away peacefully on Nov 26, 2006 at Lacombe Hospital. Lois and her twin sister, Betty, were born on a homestead near Manyberries, Alberta on October 4th, 1924. When the babies were nine weeks old the family moved from the dried out prairie to the Glendale district just north of Cochrane. It was there that the girls and their older sister Gertie, grew up. In 1942 Lois left home to begin her first career with the Royal Bank at Strathmore. Before long she was transferred to Barons and in 1945 she moved again, this time to Lacombe, where she met her future husband James Hainsworth. The two were married in July 1946 and from then on her husband, her family and her community became Lois's passion. Lois took an active part in the operation of the Hainsworth farm from the beginning; milking cows, raising chickens and growing and preserving virtually all of the family's vegetables and fruits. For many years she hauled nearly every bushel of grain harvested on the farm and during spring calving she took her turns checking on expectant mamas. Lois loved to garden and on the hottest of summer afternoons she could be found lost in her greatest delight - picking raspberries and tending her tomatoes. Always caring and giving, her friendships were forever. Lois always remembered birthdays and seldom a day went by that she didn't phone someone "just for a visit". In 2002, due to failing health, Lois and James moved into Lacombe, leaving their beloved farm in the hands of their eldest grandson. Lois happily settled into their new little home in town and before long she was baking cookies for the neighbors and growing tomatoes and petunias in her tiny garden. Always the gracious hostess she loved visitors and particularly enjoyed having old friends drop by. Predeceased by her eldest son, Bruce, in 1981, her parents, Frank and Gladys Hanes, in 1985, Lois will be remembered with much love by her husband of 60 years, James; daughter Maureen (Bob) Pocock, son Denis (Doreen) Hainsworth; grandchildren Heather (Devin) Mielke, Jim (Jan) Pocock, Lisa, Erin, Jeremy (Elissa), Kristin, and Matthew Hainsworth; great grandchildren; Jacob and Emma Joy Pocock as well as sisters Gertie Hawkwood and Betty Birchall of Calgary. Lois also looked forward to the arrival of a third great grandchild to born soon to Heather and Devin Mielke. A memorial service in honor of Lois will be held at the St. Andrew's United Church, Lacombe, on Friday December 1, 2006 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation, Suite 1500, 2235 Sheppard Ave. East, Toronto, ON M2J 5B5 or the Lacombe Palliative Care Society Box 5576 Lacombe, AB T4L 1X2.
