Lyla PICKERING

PICKERING Lyla Genelvine formerly of R.R. 1 Blackfalds and Sylvan Lake passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Extended Care facility on January 25, 2005 at the age of 85. Lyla was born to Fred and Lena Johnson on Dec. 24, 1919. Lyla will be sadly missed by her daughters Lynn Pickering and Jo Ann Pickering and her son George. Her grandchildren, Scott Yakimetz, Lara and her husband Brad Borggard, Colby Debolt and his girlfriend Linda and Dallas Debolt, will also miss her. Lyla was predeceased by her loving husband Henry on Dec. 21, 1990 and her sister Lilyan and her brothers Kris, Frank and Gordon. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyla was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was happiest when surrounded by friends and family. Always willing to lend a hand, bake a cake, or do what she could to help anyone in need. Lyla was extremely active in her community and church. She was an active and willing volunteer in many organizations such as the U.C.W. Unifarm, Bentley United Church, N.D. Party, Birthday Club, Foster Parents, and the Icelandic Club. Lyla was a sports enthusiast, enjoying horse back riding, curling, golf, cross country skiing, bowling and at the age of 70, teaching aerobics at the "old-folks home". Lyla worked for many years at the Bentley Hospital, always enjoying her opportunity to care for others. Lyla will be remembered for her graciousness, compassion, fun loving spirit and stylish appearance. Lyla will be sadly missed but lovingly cherished in the hearts of her family and dear friends. A celebration of Lyla's life will be held at the Bentley United Church on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. Internment to follow at the Aspelund Cemetery.
