VAN HAREN, Margaret

Margaret (Maaike) Van Haren was born in Ureterp, Friesland on January 29, 1934, the oldest daughter of Gerrit and Aukje (de Jong) Vander Heide. When she was 14 years old, she immigrated to Canada with her family. They settled in Southern Alberta. At the age of 15, she met and fell in love with John Van Haren. They got married six years later in Iron Springs. John and Margaret moved to Lacombe in 1958 and farmed in the Lincoln District. Margaret worked hard alongside her husband on the farm and she was an active participant in her community. When Margaret and John moved into town in 1990, they enjoyed bowling, traveling, and visiting friends and family over coffee. After John passed away June 8, 2012, Margaret continued to show warmth and kindness to others and to rely on God for comfort and guidance.

Her family includes Agnes and Tony Meyer; Erwin and Judy Van Harden; Winnie and Pete VanderMeulen; Grace and Ben Rietema, George Van Haren (1979), and Hilda and Henry de Leyer; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. We will miss her kind and hospitable spirit, her trust in God's hand in her life, and her great love for her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four sisters Hennie (Kase) Spelt, Trix (Bill) Weenink, Daisy (Reg) Penney, and Gerda (Dave) Eymundson as well as her sister-in-law Jackie (Hidde) Vander Heide-Born. She was pre-deceased by her brother Duane Vander Heide. She is also survived by John's two sisters Cor and Hein, and one brother Gys in Holland. She will be missed by the extended Vander Heide and Van Haren families.

The family would like to express deep appreciation for the care and support given by the staff at Lacombe Lodge as well as the Bentley Care Centre.

Funeral Services will be held from the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church on Monday, January 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 PM. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Rehoboth Camp Ministry or to the Lending Cupboard. Expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting www.wilsonsfuneralchapel.ca.
