Marion Bjorkeland (nee Hanna) passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the age of 91 years. Marion was born on December 9, 1913 at Red Deer, Alberta. She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara of Airdrie, nieces: Jean (Mike) Geldert of Calgary, Pat (Herb) Lede of Leduc, Lori Hiltz of Penticton, BC and nephews: Mark Ashton of Vancouver, WA, Greg Ashton of Sammamish, WA, Kevin (Brenda) Ashton of Derby, KS and Al (Mary) MacPherson of Seattle, WA. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Ashton of Kamiah, ID and great and great-great nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention. Marion will be missed by very special friends: Sonia Matichuk, Pat Skinner, Sarah Roy and Deanna Wise. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 1995, her parents, Mark and Josephine Hanna, brothers: Ross and Fred Hanna and sisters, Doris Hanna, Sheila Jarvin and Barbara Ashton. In her younger years, Marion was active in the North Group of the Knox Presbyterian Church, the Creative Arts Committee of the Westerner Exposition, a devoted 4-H Leader, an accomplished duplicate bridge player, and was both a curler and an avid curling fan. Since 2000, Marion has resided at Davenport Cottage and enjoyed every day to the fullest. She was an eternal optimist and maintained her wonderful sense of humor until the very end. A Celebration of Marion's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Interment will be held at the Horn Hill Cemetery, Penhold, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Marion's honour may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 6, 5015 - 48th Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1S9 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
