Merle SHANTZ

SHANTZ Merle Lavonne Shantz of Edmonton passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on January 16, 2008 at the age of 59 years after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Calgary on May 18, 1948 and later grew up in Hespero area and attended the David Thompson High School. Merle moved to Edmonton where she took her nursing. She worked for 32 years as a nurse at the St. Joseph Hospital, General, Grey Nuns and Glenrose. Merle retired from nursing in 2006. Merle loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Merle leaves to mourn her mother Francis Shantz; 3 sisters Beverley (Red) Gallant, Pat Petropoulos and Cindy Burgess; 2 nephews Pete and Bruce; niece Bonnie; 3 great nephews Landon, Brody and Lukas; 2 great nieces Katelyn and Brooklyn as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Merle was predeceased by her father Donald in 2003 and her brother Elmer, in 1974. A Funeral Service for the late Merle Shantz will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. with Celebrant Father Paul Kavanaugh. Interment will follow at the Hespero Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Merle's name may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association.
