Mervin BRETT

BRETT, Mervin Henry Mervin Brett of the Springvale District passed away at Red Deer, AB on February 11, 2007 at the age of 94 years. Mervin was born February 18, 1912 in Dewberry, Alberta. Early in his childhood the family relocated to Red Deer. Merv left school in grade eight to help his father on the farm and didn't quit until putting in his 73rd crop. Mervin married June Hazlett in 1947. They raised five children on the family farm in the Springvale District east of Red Deer. When the boys were old enough to take over for the winter, June and Merv enjoyed escaping from the cold in Mesa, Arizona. Merv's love for growing was seen after retirement in his greenhouse full of tomatoes. Merv is survived by his sons: Bob, John (Wanda), Bill (Joan) all of Red Deer, and daughters: MaryAnne (George) Goodacre of Sylvan Lake and Joyce Brett (Henry Black) of Sydney, Australia. His memory will be further cherished by his ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his sister Marjorie Mellon of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Merv was predeceased by his sister, Laura Brett in 1963, grandson Brett Soder in 1983, his first wife June in 1989 and second wife Alvina in 1993. A Funeral Service will be held from the Deer Park Alliance Church, 2960 - 39 Street, Red Deer, AB on Friday, February 16th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dick Duffin officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the STARS Foundation, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Box 570, Calgary, AB T2E 9Z9.
