Norma ERICKSON

ERICKSON Norma Lucille Erickson passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on April 2, 2005 at the age of 84 years. She was born to Norwegian parents, Charlie and Marie Erickson on October 16, 1920 in Didsbury, Alberta. Norma spent her childhood and early adult life in Bergen and it was there that she provided care and nurturing for many members of her large family. This care, concern and generosity also extended through the generations of her extended family. Each niece and nephew was well loved by her as she guided them toward good choices in life. She kept the family connected through time and change and welcomed each addition to the family with an open heart and open arms. Norma attended university in Calgary and Edmonton to complete her Bachelor of Education. Her teaching career spanned many years, beginning at Poplar Creek, Sundre and finally Red Deer. She was a much loved Grade One teacher at Grandview School. Norma delighted in the antics and innocence of her young pupils and enriched their education with music, art and concert presentations. Norma was a faithful supporter of Bethany Baptist Church in Red Deer and its mission. Norma took up numerous sports and traveled extensively, making friends wherever she went. She was well known for her deep faith, generosity, sense of adventure and her elegant wardrobe. Norma was predeceased by her parents and her older brothers and sisters. She is survived by her brother Charles; sister-in-law Helen Erickson Mewha; special niece and caregiver Joan McMaster; special nephew Paul Erickson; faithful friends Irene Giatant and Margaret McKinnon and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 1:00 pm at Bergen Missionary Church, Bergen AB with Pastor Dennis Buriss officiating.
