March 24, 2007

OAKES, 1950 - 2007 Mr. Douglas Edwin 'Doug' 'Dolly' Oakes, beloved husband of Mrs. Lorraine Oakes of Blackfalds, Alberta, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the age of 56 years. Doug was born on December 12, 1950 at Stettler, Alberta. He was raised in the Stettler and Big Valley areas, where he also received his schooling. Doug was a very kind and gentle soul whose heart was bigger than life itself. His generosity and caring nature was unsurpassed and for the many he called his friends, there was nothing Doug would not do for them. He loved his family and his special little grandchildren with all of his heart. He shared this love with his special dog, Benson and his beloved babies, all the kitties of the Oakesville Shelter. Doug spent his life on the road traveling far and wide in Canada and the United States for many years driving truck. The past few years he fulfilled a dream and owned his own truck working with Northwest Tank Lines out of Calgary, Alberta. The commitment and dedication he displayed through his work was second to none and he only knew hard work and long hours his whole life through. The pain and the loss we feel is so very great but we know our special Doug rests in God's arms now and that he has the peace he so deserves. Doug leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife, Lorraine of Blackfalds, Alberta, his sons, Travis Oakes of Calgary, Darren Whitney and Mark (Krystal) Whitney, both of Red Deer, Jim Finkbeiner of Ponoka and Teresa Finkbeiner of Stettler, his beloved grandchildren, Chad Whitney, Gavin, Garick and Samantha Finkbeiner and Braelyn Finkbeiner. Doug will also be very sadly missed by his two loving sisters, Carol (Ken) Jackson of Blackfalds and Kathy of Calgary, as well as numerous other loving family and countless caring friends. Doug was predeceased by his wife, Debbie and his darling baby daughter, Tanya Lee. A Public Celebration of Doug's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
