Oscar CARON

September 26, 2007

CARON Oscar Caron of Raven, Alberta passed away peacefully in Calgary September 23, 2007 surrounded by his children. Oscar was a self-made man, a true country gentleman who took great pride in the number of people that he called friends. By opening his home to them all, he made it possible for so many of us to enjoy the wonders of the "farm" and partake in good fun and camaraderie. He was born in 1926 in Batoche, Saskatchewan third in a family of 12 to Armand and Mathilda Caron and moved to Calgary in 1947. After a few small jobs, he began his lifelong career in construction and his son Dale keeps his company Oscar Caron Construction still active today. Oscar purchased the land at Raven in 1956. It was our summer place to grow up, bring our children where he taught and showed us many of the pioneer ways of his upbringing in Batoche. "The Farm" is the legacy he has left behind. We were always so proud of our Dad and his work ethic was our constant role model. He built the new home in Raven in 1975, moved from Calgary and as he saw a need, continued to develop the property. The outhouses, the Roundhouse, the picnic tables, the showers… he always found something that peaked his interest and he had to build it so we, his friends and family could enjoy it. Aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbours… everyone enjoyed Mom & Dad's hospitality, especially the annual Fathers Day Weekend. He and Mom loved to travel during the winter months to the USA and after Mom passed away in 1990, he continued his travels with his dear friend, Murriel. Oscar is survived by his "significant other", Murriel; children Dale (Judy), Linda Then (Walt), Dan, Cheryl McBride (Todd Lembicz); daughters-in-law Heather (Gord) Denison, Kathy (Mike); son-in-law Neil McBride; grandchildren Darcy, Elodie, Dawn (Mike) Lashmar, Wyatt Then (Christa McKee), Denell (Mike) McCune, Jesse, Lucas Then (Tabitha Olson), LeeAnn (Jeff Brown), Tristan, Nic (Lia Ludlow), Ashley McBride, Vanessa McBride, Keith, Jackie (Gord) Milgate, Debbie (Jan) Kudlik; great-grandchildren Jestine McCune, Aden McCune, Anastasia, Jaden, Dakota, Branson, Samantha, Kohen Lashmar, Kaylin Milgate, Mason Milgate, Brodie Kudlik, Jaycee Milgate and McCoy Kudlik; two sisters and their families Jeanette (Bill) Debolt and Grace Jasper; brothers and their families Allan (Shirley), Terry (Beth), Larry (Sheree). He was predeceased by his wife Val, sons Randy and Cal, grandson Jared and many beloved brothers and sisters. Rest in peace Dad and know how much we love and miss you.
