PARKER Aug. 26, 1918 - March 17, 2008 John Harold "Jack" Parker was born in Sydney, Australia on August 26, 1918. He immigrated to England in 1920 and was raised in London. He served with the British 8th Army in Italy and North Africa during WWII then immigrated to Alberta in 1947. In 1949 he married Margaret Othen and settled in Ponoka where he enjoyed his nursing career at the Alberta Hospital, especially the years he spent as a teacher in the school of nursing. After retirement in 1980 he moved to Vancouver Island where he enjoyed a second career as a volunteer counsellor at SOS, the local community organization. A second retirement in 2003 brought him to Red Deer to be close to family. He leaves to mourn his loss, Margaret, his wife of 58 years, seven children; Diana (Paul) Crump, Henry (Sonia) Parker, Fran (Grant) Edwards, Helen (Doug) Tucker, Florence Parker, Cathy (Bob) West and Lynda (Jerry) Mah and eleven grandchildren; Jeanette and Kent West, Alexander and Edward Parker, Laura, Matthew, Benjamin and Carmin Edwards, Robert Tucker, Nicholas and Ryan Mah. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at the First Baptist Church (4310 – 39 Street, Red Deer) on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.reddeerfuneralhome.com
