PEDERSON It is with great sadness the family of Melvin Pederson announces his passing on March 24, 2006 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 87. Melvin will be forever loved and remembered by Jean, his devoted wife and companion of 66 years, his daughters; Doreen (Dennis) Kay of Red Deer, Marilyn (Joe) Shorthouse of Sudbury, Ontario, Sharon Louie of Calgary and his son, Ken (Wanda) of Onoway, Alberta. He was the beloved grandfather of Chris, Darryl (Justine) and Melaine Kay; David (Sara) Shorthouse; Cheryl (Luca) Renelli; and Krista (Garth Horton) Davis. He delighted in the love and antics of five great grandchildren: Jocelyn Kay, Joshua, Andrea and Emily Renelli; and Brennan Davis. Melvin was predeceased by a son-in-law, Stephen Louie. Melvin was born in Manyberries, Alberta and moved at the age of eight with his family to homestead in the Onoway area. He met and married the love of his life, Jean, in 1940 and they farmed for several years before moving into the village of Onoway. Melvin was proud to have served as Onoway's Postmaster for 29 years. Melvin was an active member of the Onoway community; proud of his many years of service with the BPOE Elks and dedicated service to the United Church. In 1983, Melvin retired and he and Jean moved to Red Deer where they spent many years enjoying their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and remember him with fondness and love on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunnybrook United Church (12 Stanton Street) Red Deer, Alberta, Reverend Paul Mullen officiating.
