Peter WADMAN

WADMAN Peter Peter Wadman of Rocky Mountain House passed away suddenly and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 12, 2008, at the age of 83. Peter was born in Tietjerk, Friesland, Holland in 1925. In 1949 Peter, with his new bride Corry, along with his parents, brother and sister immigrated to Lethbridge to work in the sugar beet fields. In 1954 Peter and Corry moved to the Alhambra area to farm with his parents. Peter soon became involved in the Farmers Union and in 1957 he took part in the "Farmers March in Ottawa." As the farm grew he began farming in partnership with his father, brother and brother in-law forming E. Wadman and Sons or "Rainbow Ranch". Peter's main job on the farm was the dairy operation. As a dairy man he became a member of the Central Albert Dairy Pool and served as a delegate, director, Vice President and President. He was very involved in promoting the "Market Share Quota" program. Peter served as a director of Dairy farmers of Alberta for ten years. In 1983 and 1985 he traveled to India to evaluate Dairy cooperatives there. Peter served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Horseguard Rural Electrification Association for 27 years. He served as an elder of the Christian Reformed Church for 6 years and volunteered for disaster relief projects sponsored by his church. Peter was instrumental in removing the VLTs from the town of Rocky Mountain House. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 59 years and ten months, Corry, and his children Shirley Bergsma (Albert), Bert Wadman (Agnes) and Nancy Opden Dries (John), eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, his brother Doeke Wadman (Ann) and his sister Ingrid Hornstra (Jack). A memorial service will be held on November 19, 2008 at 1:30 PM at the First Christian Reform Church of Rocky Mountain House. A private family interment will be held at the Horseguard Cemetery.
