BLUMENSCHEIN,

Robert Joseph

May 12, 1934 - June 18, 2017

On June 18th, 2017, a beautiful sunny Father's Day, our Dad, Robert Joseph Blumenschein (Grandpa Bob) surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with our Mom, Charlene.

Dad was born May 12th, 1934 in Calgary Alberta to Ivan and Lottie Blumenschein, this is where he spent his childhood. On September 11th, 1957 Dad joined the Canadian Forces and served until March 10th, 1980. While in the Forces Dad served in CFB Cold Lake and Baden Baden Germany. Dad then went on to enjoy his next career with Xerox Canada as a service technician, this took him to Peace River Alberta and then on to Red Deer Alberta where Mom and Dad started their retired life.

In 1971, Dad along with his daughter Tina, met Charlene, the true love of his life and her two sons Brian and Barry. They married in May of the same year and Lorianne completed our family in 1972. Dad is survived by his 4 children Barry (Terri), Brian (Denise), Tina (Gil) and Lorianne (Doug), his 10 fabulous grandchildren, Raymond, Cassie, Jenny, Brandon, Megan, Jamie, Josh, Cody, Kaylee and Lauren, 6 wonderful Great Grandchildren, Lainey, Charlie, Kasen, Marcus, Raenna, Kaylyn and his brother Jerome. He was predeceased by his wife Charlene, his Father and Mother Ivan and Lottie, Brothers Ronnie and Raymond, Sister Joan and Granddaughter Caitlin.

After retirement he became the resident tour guide to all who came to visit from near and far, he loved to show off his beautiful province of Alberta. He was the kindest most giving Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother and Friend and would do anything for anyone, being able to help fulfilled our Dad. His love for life and the lessons he taught us will be passed along for many generations. Dad faced all hurdles in life with such positivity and instilled in us that there is nothing more important in life then family. Dad's final days were spent surrounded by all those who loved him, a true testament to the importance of this lesson.

All of his children and many friends can say that they have something Bob Blumenschein built or fixed in their homes. Dad spend hours, first in a hobby shop in Cold Lake and later in life in his garage, building furniture and repairing any items his children brought him, If you needed something fixed, take it to Bob. If you needed a question answered, you asked Bob, Dad had an incredible knowledge bank, he always knew the answer to whatever you asked. Dad was never far from a good book, paperback of course as hardcovers were too expensive for Charlene, he often fell asleep in his Lazy Boy chair snoring loudly with a book resting on his chest. One of the many ways Dad participated in his children's lives was as a volunteer coach and Scout Leader, as Grandchildren joined the family Grandpa Bob was their biggest fan, always on the sidelines cheering and encouraging, he was so proud of their accomplishments.

A memorial service will be held at Eventide Funeral Home, 4820-45th St, Red Deer, on Tuesday June 27th, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Dad asks that donations be made to the N.I.C.U. c/o The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, 3942-50A Ave. Red Deer, AB T4N 4E7 in memory of Grandpa Bob Blumenschein.

Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean we'll miss you until we meet again. Love you Dad forever and always.
