MCKINNON Robert Daniel ‘Dan’ McKinnon, beloved husband of AnnaBelle McKinnon of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at his home, after a courageous battle with heart disease and cancer, with his loving wife, AnnaBelle and R.N. Karin Jeffries holding his hands, on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the age of 75 years. Dan was born on October 26, 1929 at Red Deer, Alberta to John Locke and Janet Aitken McKinnon. He was raised on a farm south of Red Deer, received his first nine years of schooling at Clearview School and continued through to grade twelve at Red Deer High School. Dan went on to graduate from the Olds School Of Agriculture. At the age of twenty-two years, Dan joined the Army R.C.E.M.E. On October 10, 1951, he married AnnaBelle Petersen, before being sent overseas to Hanover, Germany. Upon his return from the Army, Dan was accepted into a pipeline welding program at Leduc, Alberta. For many years, Dan was a private welding contractor for the oil industry working for companies such as Bannister, Marine, Manix, Majestic and Flint. One of his jobs included work on the Trans Canada Pipeline. Near Dan’s retirement age, he inspected pipelines. Dan was also an active participant in numerous clubs, including past D.D.G.M. of the Waskasoo I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 16, Honour Guard with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 35, Red Deer and in his younger years a Sea Cadet. Dan also enjoyed many sports, including baseball, curling, hockey and Yes! He was an Oilers fan. Upon Dan’s retirement, he loved to golf. Dan took great pride in his family, especially his ten special grandchildren who loved their Granddad dearly. Dan will be very deeply and sadly missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and many dear and faithful friends. Dan leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife AnnaBelle and his children, Duncan (Sheila) of Beausejour, Manitoba and their children, Hannah, Grant and Zane, Dale (Donna) of Calgary, Alberta and their children, Daniel, Neil and Ian, Eleanor (Ron Rayner) of Victoria, British Columbia and their children, Robert and Annabelle, Murray (Crystal) of Caroline, Alberta and their children, Evangelene and Benjamin. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Bill McKinnon of Delburne, Alberta, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Dan was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Smith in 2003. A Public Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. A Family Interment will be held at the Horn Hill Cemetery, Penhold, Alberta.
