MUNRO, Roy Douglas

We are devastated to announce the sudden passing of Roy Munro at home in Red Deer on Thursday, November 2, 2017 of a heart attack. Born in Innisfail to Douglas Victor and Jeane (Henley) Munro on November 4, 1942, he worked the family farm and learned to curl as a teenager, a sport he enjoyed throughout his life.

In the late 1980s, he left farming to study computers at RDC and while there, he met and married Marie Hermary, also becoming an ever-supportive father figure to her daughter, Suzanne. Roy was well-known in the neighborhood for his daily walks, his helpfulness with home repairs and gardening.

Roy and Marie travelled often and enjoyed many family gatherings both in Canada and in France. He loved to dance, to golf, and to play bridge and cribbage and to keep learning new information about our world. He was always quick to help anyone who may have needed it - Roy was a gentleman and a gentle man, and it was a privilege to have had him in our lives. As a friend noted recently, "he was calm, patient, kind, humble, and content - just some of the fine qualities that define the essence of Roy."

He will be missed by many loved ones, including his sisters, Clara Gibson of Innisfail, Irene Chemney of Vancouver Island, and Mary (Jack) Sicotte of Calgary and their families and many cousins, especially Katherine Smith, Dave (Dorothy) Munro and Lloyd (Blanche) Munro and their families.

Marie's large extended family includes many saddened Hermary siblings and their clans who will miss Roy's presence in their lives.

A Celebration of Roy's Life will take place at Poplar Ridge Hall, Range Rd 283, Red Deer County, AB on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 am. A Private Interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy's memory to the charity of one's choice.

Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
