December 24, 2008

LANCTOT Shirley Grace Marie It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Lanctot announces her passing on December 14, 2008 at the age of 63. Shirley passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born December 8, 1945 in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan. She grew up at Pleasant Valley where she attended Melinda School and then went to MUCC in Melfort. Shirley took a Dress Design course and spent a summer at the Banff School of Fine Arts in the costume design department. She became an extremely accomplished seamstress with a gift for flair. Shirley enjoyed travelling around Saskatchewan doing home clothing parties and making new friends. In 1983 she moved to Red Deer, AB and bought Jeaneration. It soon became the ladies boutique she'd always wanted and she loved satisfying her customers. For several years now Shirley has sold her own designs at the Farmer's Markets in central Alberta. She loved the markets and all the people especially all of her Vendor friends. Shirley enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, painting nature scenes and walks on the beach watching the sailboats. She will always be admired and remembered for her generosity, her positive attitude and her love for her family and friends with no regrets in life. Shirley is predeceased by her father Derrick Smith (2000) and her favourite uncle Jim Smith (2005). Left to mourn are her mother Ann Smith, her friend Rick Lanctot, her daughter Bonni (Brent) Hodder and grandchildren Nichole and Chase Jarvis and her son Rory (Stephanie) Lanctot and grandchildren Cole, Jesse and Savanna Lanctot, her sister Gloria (Ron) Thompson, Aunt Betty and nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place and there will be an announcement of the Memorial Service to be held in the spring. Special thanks goes to Pastor Bill and all the great staff and volunteers at the Palliative Unit of the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
