STANDISH, 1914 - 2006 Sophia Angelina Standish of Red Deer, passed away peacefully after a short illness, at her home, Club Sierra in Red Deer on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the age of 92 years. Sophia was born on June 7, 1914 at Calgary, Alberta. She was raised in Calgary and then farmed at Priddis, Alberta. She was employed at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary for many years. Then she moved to Red Deer in May of 2006 to be closer to her son, Norman. Sophia was a warm, caring lady who loved all animals and had a special place in her heart for each furry creature. She loved nature and the outdoors very much and spent many hours gardening. She also enjoyed taking special trips traveling to the mountains, enjoying their beauty. She was an avid golfer and she found great pleasure in traveling and especially loved her trips visiting with her son, Norman and his wife, vacationing in Texas during the winter months. Sophia is survived by her only child, Norman and his wife, Joan Standish of Red Deer, her grandchildren, Janet Lynn and Norman Miles Jr. (Kris), her great grandchildren, Mathew and Evan. She is also survived by her twin sister, Jenny Slater of Sylvan Lake and her nieces and nephews, George, Judy, Gerry, Jerry and Susan, Shirley, Margery and Bill. Sophia was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Tetkla and her two brothers Mike and Joe. A Public Celebration of Sophia's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
