STEPHENSON 1934- 2007 Mr. Alfred Carl "Al" Stephenson passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, at the age of 73 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Al was born on April 4, 1934 at Bonnyville, Alberta to Joseph and Effie Stephenson. He married Alice Johnson in 1955. Al worked for CP Rail for thirty-eight years in the Central Alberta Region, moving to Red Deer in 1963. Al was well known and highly regarded as a fastball pitcher, playing the game well into his forties. He also spent many years being involved in minor and junior hockey. Al enjoyed operating ham radios, gardening, farming and entertaining people throughout Central Alberta and the United States with the music that he and Alice spent many hours making together. Al enjoyed the time that he was able to spend with family and friends, and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and love of life. Al is lovingly remembered by his wife of Fifty-Two years, Alice Stephenson, his father-in-law, Art Johnson, his three children, Brian (Chris), Cheryl (Cindy) and Barry (Monika), four grandchildren, Joe, Erin (Kyle Schalk), Elea, Kai and a great grandson, Silas Schalk. He will also be sadly missed by a brother, Stan (Anne) Stephenson of Calgary, four sisters, Vi (Fred) Tabler of Edmonton, Evelyn de Kergommeaux of Port McNeil, British Columbia, Louise (Merle) Western of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Ruby (Bill) Stone of Edmonton, a sister-in-law, Joyce (Ed) Boyce of Grande Prairie and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service in Al's honour will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer, on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Al’s honour may be made directly to Potter's Hand Ministry, 4935-51 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4J 1J5 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 4730a Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1X2.
