Thomas HOSKIN

HOSKIN, Thomas (Tom) Hoskin, of Red Deer, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at the age of 85. Tom was born March 18, 1921, and spent 81 years on the family farm before moving to Victoria Park Lodge, Red Deer, in 2000. Tom joined the army in 1939 and spent 5 1/2 years overseas during WWII. After returning to the farm, he married Gladys Huget, and there they raised their family and spent time with friends. Tom was active in the Legion, taking a role as honor guard, organizing annual army reunions and selling poppies. Honoring fallen comrades on Remembrance Day was an important commitment he instilled in his family. Tom's volunteer activities included Chair, Edwell School District; President, local UFA; leader of the Horn Hill 4-H Grain Club; Vice-President, Red Deer Mutual Telephone Company; Red Deer Exhibition; local REA; County of Red Deer Agricultural Service Board and parent volunteer, Red Deer Pony Club. Tom was predeceased by his father and mother, Arthur and Catherine Hoskin, and sister Catherine Grant. He is lovingly remembered by Gladys, his wife and partner of 57 years; children, Heather (Ted) Marchesi, Ken (Marion Malsbury) Hoskin and Brenda (Eric Sanford) Hoskin; grandchildren, Melissa and Daniel Marchesi, Autumn (Ryan Boag) Malsbury, Megan (Brian) Stickland, Caley and Zach Hoskin; great grand-daughter, Ayden Boag; sisters, Mary Cooper and Elsie (Harold) Eloff; brother, Ben (Vivian) Hoskin; sister-in-law, Carol (John) Carson and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held at the Red Deer Legion on Friday, October 13th at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 (2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 1M9); Red Deer Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit (P O Box 5030, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 6R2); or charity of choice.
